Over a thousand people from all over Europe took to the
streets of the Axarquian mountain village of Cómpeta for the
second CompetaArt Walkabout. In cool but sunny weather, the
art lovers followed the maps which directed them through the
picturesque cobbled streets to eighteen different venues
where artists were waiting to talk to them and show off
their work. Homes, studios and workshops exhibited paintings
in acrylic, oils, pastels and
watercolours,
photography, silver, wood and glasswork, ceramics, sculpture
and an amazing collection of textile art. People were
greatly impressed by the extremely high standard of work
exhibited and the artists were delighted with the amount of
work purchased and complements paid. The Walkabout
will now become an annual Easter event in the village.
CompetaArt.com was formed two years ago by local resident,
Wayne Newman, to bring together people of artistic talents
who live in or near the village. There are now more than 30
individuals and groups with more to be added soon. This
coming year will also see in CompetaArt new exhibitions and
new sections showing other areas of the culture in Cómpeta. |

Mas de 1000 personas de diferentes países europeos se
dieron cita para recorrer las calles de Cómpeta hermoso
pueblo de montaña de la Axarquia en la segunda GIRA de
CompetaArt. Con un tiempo fresco pero soleado, los amantes
del arte con los mapas que los dirigieron a través de las
pintorescas calles empedradas a dieciocho lugares diferentes
en donde los artistas esperaban para hablar con ellos y para
mostrar su obra. Los hogares, los estudios y los talleres
exhibieron pinturas acrílicas, al óleo, pasteles, acuarelas,
fotografía, plata, madera tallada, artesanía del cristal,
cerámica, escultura y una colección asombrosa de arte
textil. El alto nivel del trabajo exhibido impresionó
agradablemente a los visitantes y tanto los artistas como
los artesanos quedaron muy satisfechos con los cumplidos que
les dedicaron a su trabajo así como con la venta de su obra.
La GIRA ahora se convertirá en un acontecimiento anual de
Semana Santa en la Villa de Cómpeta
CompetaArt.com se formo hace dos años por Wayne Newman
residente en Cómpeta, con la intención de agrupar a los
talentos artísticos que viven en la Villa o en sus
alrededores. Hoy día hay más de 30 personas y grupos a los
cuales se añadirán pronto otros más. Este año veremos en
CompetaArt otras exposiciones y nuevas secciones que
nos mostraran otras áreas de la cultura de Cómpeta.
